His love is bigger than your hurt. It is. Your hurt feels mountainous, tempestuous, looming larger every moment; and yet, His love is bigger. The pain rears its sound louder in your ear, the whole world is ringing with the sting of its pronunciation. Still, His love is bigger, how can it be? How can it be bigger? The pain is everything, everywhere. His love is bigger. It is bigger. It is bigger, it is bigger.
A painful revelation this can be. To call the pain small, to diminish the wind in your chest, flares to the center of your pride. The pain is big, you say in return, it’s so big it consumes me! But, His love is bigger, you hear in reply. His love is bigger. And when you see it, when you see that His love is the larger foe, that with one swipe the pain could be swept up into His love, it’s like looking at earth from space for the first time. It doesn’t make sense for awhile. It’s disconcerting, disorienting, dislodging. You keep saying it. His love is bigger, His love is bigger, His love is bigger; until it forms in your chest. His love IS bigger. It’s bigger. And you begin to think of slipping your arm, your limbs, your torso, from beneath the stone. His love can lift the rock, take the lie, call you worthy, inflate lungs, call rivers from the dry, remind you of light. His love can win.
That most dangerous word, Hope, looms now, unravels like a wilderness in your heart. All you can think of is sweetness and light. The pain is losing its grip. You’re coming home. The words fill your body. His love is bigger. And the pain doesn’t feel diminished or ridiculed, you are just held in more truth, more reality, more tangibility, more concreteness. The pain came, but was fog and mirrors in comparison.
He is setting you free--from the fear, the lie, the hurt, the disappointment, the doubt, hopelessness, pain, restlessness, loneliness. Say it aloud with me, His love is bigger. And then give into to it, the expanse of it, fall in. The pain wants to stick. But the reality of His love has no room for it. Fall. Let go. Be caught.
